Here at Norwalk Furniture, we work hard to read the trend, style and color tea leaves so that we can curate a beautiful, productive and “right-for-for-the-times” fabric collection.
Each year we comb the aisles of international trade shows, the pages of shelter magazines, the world of social media, trend gurus, tv and film to discover and distill colors and moods that seem perfectly on point. We call it our magic funnel”. Through this complex process we aim to make our assortment appealing and saleable to the consuming public and to be the BEST design “toolkit” for our interior design and retail partners.
One of the trend reports we follow is the esteemed WGSN. This season they call out MARBLING as a “key area to invest in and a “must- have” trend to tap into”. WGSN notes that key themes include “expressive mark-making, busy camouflage effects and artistic marbled designs. Hand-made, craft and makers” are words they share along with this trend. Continuing on they point out that “painterly handwork and fluid artwork develop into striking digitally printed designs. Emphasizing the hand of the maker, original marble artwork is distorted, stretched or supersized into abstract patterns for standout pieces.”
Drops, splashes, graphic veining and swirls of color with organic contours give the illusion of movement.” While often very colorful, we also see “play with neutral tones from tinted beiges to greys to pastel pinks.”
We have been so fortunate to collaborate with the remarkable marbling artist, Jill Seale to bring this trend alive in the Norwalk Fabric Collection. Her marbled textiles have added energy and spice to our collections for several seasons now and this spring will be no exception. At Norwalk, we aim to bring the best in creative textile talents together in our assortment so that our fabrics are fun, colorful and fashionable. We search high and low for talents like Jill and are so grateful to count her among our design stars.
Who is Jill Seale? Her tagline says it best….World Inspired, Hand Designed. Jill is a remarkable design professional and an artist, a seeker for beauty who adventures around the world for inspiration. She is the daughter of an artist and (shhhhh…) a stand- up comedian (don’t tell her I told you). Following a successful graphic design and art career, a few years ago Jill found herself in her beloved Tuscany, learning the ancient art of marbling from the masters themselves. Indulging her love of textiles, she then launched her eponymous Jill Seale fabric collection in 2017. From her Charlotte studio, Jill creates an endless stream of fun, fresh and sophisticated designs (marbling and so much MORE) for the gift, tabletop, wallcovering and rug industry…as well as her own textile line.
